The Day Tango Killed Salsa (Over Mexican Pupusas)

This happens all the time in cooking shows whenever they attempt to feature comida latina. You know, while the chef is cooking some guacamole--parsley included--or fixing some tofu-filled pupusas, the show's soundtrack is shooting at us with some Spanish guitars. It's like playing a Polka whenever you talk about pizzas, or something like that.

But, in a Public Library? Yes, mixed-up misconceptions about Latin Culture blossom everywhere, even in the strangest, allegedly most cultivated yards.

This is a picture I took like, ten minutes ago, outside the Public Library where I use to work from when in Austin. The great thing: Salsa lessons for free in a public, community place. Not so great thing: They might play some Paco de Lucía's CD during the classes.

And yes, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán will sign books and bongoes afterwards.

Cultural translation, anyone?
